Week 01

22 - 28 Feb

To start off this week we begun by coming up with an idea for a puzzle game, We looked at other puzzle games with how they functioned and the art style given to them.

We liked Ideas of a desert temple puzzle, so I tasked myself to do research on desert temples and see what types of terrain the are in and how style themselves, I was a environment artist for the first week of this game and I looked at 3 types of software to model this terrain, the three options were Unity, Maya or Zbrush.

I looked at the pros and cons of each software and how the outcome of the terrain would be, after all of that I knew unity would be the best option for this type of terrain and keeping it all in the same software is better than exporting and transfers from software to software.

I used the Terrain Tools Package that is free in unity, And from there I did some more research on the terrain package because I haven’t used it in a while so coming back to it was a bit of challenge, I figured out how to use the brushes and setting up the scene so after a little bit of tinkering around and I was underway with creating a basic terrain with inspiration of the Sahara desert.

As I went along creating the main terrain I was asked by Lorne to create 5 more terrains, He explained to me that he needed them for each level but he needed them all to be slightly different to show the illusion of traveling.

I went and spent the week creating all 6 terrains and it was really simple to create I finished them all on Thursday and I began to look at texturing, I usually go to substance to texture my models but for the quick and easy method I decided to go with unity because it was already there and ready for texturing.

I spent the rest of the week and the weekend texturing the terrain and had finished on sunday, I sent them through to Lorne and he imported them into his scene in week 2 of the game creation, he came back to me and said that I hadnt textured them properly the first texture I added wasnt on the model for some odd reason.

So I went back to the original unity file and found out that the texture I put on it was the base layer that doesnt export, so I applied another texture layer and painted a sand texture again to the missing textured areas.

Sent it back to Lorne and that was the fix to that problem, So since I finished that task I made myself art asset designer and began creating pillars.
